In the late 90’s Akai released the Headrush E1 a digital delay and looper. With a “tape echo” setting to mimic the warmth and idiosyncrasies of a vintage tape delay.
Once of the coolest is that each of the 4 “tape heads” has it’s own output. Meaning you can set them to a different delay time and send them to a separate amp making for some very expansive soundscapes. You can actually surround yourself in sound if you’ve got enough amps on hand.
Looper’s Delight has an in-depth review from Alan Imberg written in 1999.
