Boss Super Shifter PS-5

A revolutionary, now discontinued pitch shifter.

Boss describes the Super Shifter as:

"a next-generation intelligent pitch shifting pedal with killer sounds and BOSS first features. This single box provides pitch shifting, harmonies, detuning, and wild tremolo arm/flutter effects--all with simple, knob-based control."

The Super Shifter expands on the Boss PS-3 with more pitch shifting options. It dispenses with the delay altogether but with faster, more accurate tracking of the notes it becomes indefensible. More so, when you discover the "whammy" pedal features.

I'll always associate this with the siren sound that comes in during the middle/end section of "His Belly Burst" by Animal Hospital. Listen from 17:05 to the end.

Mutoid Man is known to rock two PS-5s (one up and one down). And guess how the Black Keys got the "whammy" pitch bends on the' "Lonely Boy" riff?
