Silvertone Stratotone 1420/21

Silvertone_fullHere is a late ’50s-early ’60s Silvertone Stratotone 1421. A delightful flea market find. Shows some wear & tear. The bridge pick-up does not function but this guitar embodies vintage mojo for sure. Has a vintage chipboard case. This model was introduced by Sears in their Fall/Winter catalog in 1959 and discontinued in 1962. A very, very close relative of the Harmony guitars of the era. ThisĀ  semi-hollow body has a nice thick neck, an easily over-driven pickup with a robust woody (plywood?) sound that modern guitars just can not replicate. Every guitar player needs to own a piece from the Harmony/Silvertone/Danelectro family at some point in his/her playing days. It is a rite of passage. If you are looking for some primal electric blues of long gone Chicago or the dreamy retro vibe of the Dum Dum Girls, friend, you might wanna plug this one in.
